Day 6 – Mamoré

Our days activities began after breakfast as our family got to go piranha fishing. I expected this to be similar to our first experience of fishing where this is slightly more effort as we drive in a boat to a lagoon. However, this was not the case. As we got into the boat our English speaking guide told us that we were going to be hiking a half hour through the jungle. This was going to be a little more than we bargained for. Our boat stopped on the side of the river and we all got out and climbed up the a yellow arch that was marking the path. We had two tour guides, one pilot for the boat and the other our translator. They each had a machete and one lead while the other trailed us, creating a kennedy sandwich. They told us  not to touch anything and the keep up, then they started hacking through the jungle. We were warned not to touch trees and we could knock fire ants onto us. After a nerve wracking hike we got to the fishing  spot and cast out with only some line. We saw bubbles from a couple of place and had fish bite but none of us caught anything. The walk back was far easier to enjoy than the walk there and more pictures were taken. Thankfully we got back to the boat safely although or guide saw a five foot snake in our path and went around it.

Our next activity of the day was another jungle walk, though this one had already been cleared mostly by the village we were going to visit. We walked through another part of the jungle and saw many birds and cool looking trees. The highlight of this walk was that we got to see monkeys in a tree above us, although we didn’t make it to the village.

After dinner we went looking for cayman in a small boat. This was super fun because it was pitch black and we were navigating entirely by flashlight. We used the flashlight to search for the reflections of eyes and then got really close to the cayman and tortoises. Along our boat ride we had a bit of a scare. Something had hit Tasha’s leg and  we told her that it was just water. Then my dad started panicking as something hard touched his leg. It turned out to be three small fish that were scared by our boat and decided to jump into it. We only saw three cayman and they were small but it was still a very exiting experience.
